LandscapeGardenPassage / RED (2020)
LandscapeGardenPassage / RED is an installation and performance presented at Het Hem that extends the spatial research developed for a newly built neighbourhood in Amsterdam East. The work originates from an intervention during the 2020 lockdown, when public life was restricted, and neighbourhood spaces stood largely unused.
In a building container, I installed hand-dyed, light-sensitive red paper across the floor and windows. As the pigment reacted to daylight, it shifted from saturated red to yellow, producing gradients and imprints that served as a material register of a period of social standstill. For its presentation at Het Hem, the material study was reconfigured into suspended and floor-based paper sheets, accompanied by a video displaying a spatial design rendering with a soundscore derived from residents’ articulated needs. The installation was further activated through a live performance with Enric Monfort (percussion) and Simone Giacomini (electric guitar), combining spoken text, percussion and electric guitar. LandscapeGardenPassage / RED acts as a transitional phase within the wider research. It bridges the initial neighbourhood study and the later Book Tree Project (2021), showing how early material observations and community insights can develop into installation, performance, and ultimately a permanent public artwork.
