Cindy Wegner (Berlin, 1990)
About
Cindy Wegner is an interdisciplinary artist and initiator of socially-engaged projects. In particular, she is interested in the role of art in public spaces and explores alternative ways of production and ownership, drawing inspiration from the solidarity economy and economic democracy. She develops artistic projects in collaboration with local organizations and neighborhoods that identify and respond to social needs. Her focus lies in reclaiming public spaces through art and performance with particular interest in shifting agency towards local communities.
Bio
Cindy Wegner has a BA in Fine Art at the Academie Minerva, Groningen, NL (2015) and graduated at the Sandberg Instituut with an MA in Fine Art and Design (2020). She was an artist-in-residence at the Milieux Institute for Arts, Culture and Technology, Concordia University Montréal, CA (2017). She participated (selection) at the Performing Arts Festival Berlin (2018); the 48th Neukölln Festival (2022) and exhibited at the Raum für Drastische Maßnahmen, Berlin (2018); the Casco Art Institute, Utrecht (2019); Het Hem, Zaandam (2020) and deGUT, Berlin (2022). Her design proposal LandscapeGardenPassage was shortlisted for the ‘Public Artwork Development’ (2020) commissioned by BPD Project Development, Sandberg Instituut and Gerrit Rietveld Academie. Wegner is based in Berlin and Amsterdam and works across Europe.
